Al-Attar, based in the Damascus Free Zone, states that it was established in 1990 and describes itself as "the first founder of the herbal pharmaceutical industries in the Arab world", developing its products in scientific cooperation with institutions, centres and research laboratories specialised in medicinal herbs and plants, under medical and pharmaceutical staff; its founder and general manager is Mr. Qudsi Al-Attar. At Gulfood 2026 it exhibited as "Alattar & Alshami" together with the Al Shami coffee brand, whose coffee expertise it dates back to 1924. The Alattar range covers green tea (plain and with lemon, mint, honey, cinnamon & ginger, pomegranate, plus Japanese green tea) and Ceylon tea; single herbs such as aniseed, mint, sage, lemon verbena, cumin, cumin & lemon, hibiscus, ginger, wild thyme, cinnamon, ginseng and chamomile; Zhourat Shamia (plain and with cinnamon) and Zhourat Lebnania flower teas; mountain honey in 250 g and 500 g jars; and specialised medicinal herbal mixtures. Al Shami supplies selected whole Arabic coffee beans, roasted in-house. The company states that its laboratory uses GC and HPLC chromatography to select plants with the highest content of active substances, checks them for microbial and insect contamination, pesticide residues and toxic metals, and compares them against the USP, BP and PDR references, and that it follows World Health Organization requirements. It markets its products in Syria, the Arab world and internationally under the Al-Attar name, and has exhibited at Gulfood Dubai, the Morocco international fair and Food Africa in Egypt.
