Sudan• Member since 1997
DAL Dairy is the dairy business of DAL Food, part of Sudan's DAL Group, and markets its products under the CAPO brand. DAL Dairy Factory was established in 1997 to pioneer pasteurised fresh milk and UHT milk in Sudan; the group states it became the country's top dairy processing company, and in 2013 it merged with the group's other food companies to form DAL Food. The CAPO range includes pasteurised and long-life milk, plain and fruit yoghurt, cheese, cream, butter and mish, a traditional Sudanese dairy delicacy. The company runs its own distribution with a fleet of refrigerated trucks, and the dairy business moved into a new plant in Khartoum North designed together with Tetra Pak. The group cites a herd of 3,000 Holstein/Friesian cows and 200,000 yoghurt cups produced per day. In 2000 the business received ISO 9001:1994 approval from Lloyd's Register, which the group describes as the first ISO certification in Sudan; it was most recently renewed in 2010 to ISO 9001:2008. The group does not publish dairy export data.
