FARAH is a Tunisian company based in the Borj Cedria industrial zone, Bir El Bey, Ben Arous governorate. Its site says that in 1991 the brothers Mustapha and Sadri Ferchiou took over an old family business named FARAH to carry on four generations of expertise in red meat processing, and that over 30 years the company has established itself as a leader in Tunisia in the processing of red meat and related products, with a capital of 2 million Tunisian dinars. Alongside processing, the company says it has set up a distribution platform for frozen products dedicated to professional foodservice, that it has represented the international brand McCain Foods in Tunisia since 1996, and that it is active in the frozen food trade, marketing premium frozen fries and vegetables, seafood, salmon and foie gras. It has frozen storage of 700 tonnes, chilled storage of 120 tonnes and dry storage of 100 tonnes, and recently acquired warehouses in the Ben Arous industrial zone covering 2,880 m² with 700 tonnes of frozen and 100 tonnes of chilled capacity; its fleet comprises 15 bi-temperature refrigerated trucks. It says it has commercial agreements with the country's largest hotel chains, catering companies and supermarket groups; its site shows client logos including Radisson, Burger King, Seabel, The Residence, La Cigale Tabarka and Dar Zarrouk, and its wholesale catalogue is available on request for institutions, restaurants, fast food and retail. Among distributed products the site lists McCain fries (Tradition, Golden Long, Special Kid Smile, lightly seasoned wedges, onion rings and Rösti), frozen vegetables from Congelados de Navarra (broccoli, green beans, peas, Russian salad), La Maison du Foie Gras foie gras, Alaska pollock sticks and fruit purée. Its own production covers cut beef, lamb and poultry, and the beef charcuterie range it launched in 2008: salami, smoked beef bacon, dried meat, smoked frankfurters, cocktail sausages, chorizo, mini merguez and chopped steak. The company says it was the first Tunisian company certified HACCP, in March 2004, for red meat cutting and processing, that it has an integrated quality and food safety management system under ISO 22000 and ISO 9001, that it holds sanitary approval DA-RB 0102, and that its charcuterie carries a 'Halal' label certified jointly by INNORPI (National Institute of Standardization and Industrial Property) and the Mufti of the Tunisian Republic. It also says that in 2001 it was the first Tunisian company in its sector to join the national upgrading programme, becoming the first red meat processing platform compliant with European standards.
