MAPAK Edible Oils (MEO) is a Pakistan–Malaysia joint venture between Pakistan's Westbury Group and Malaysian associates among the largest palm oil producers, with facilities at Port Qasim, Karachi. The refinery started commercial production in April 2006, and the company describes itself as the largest edible oil refinery in Pakistan. It runs physical refining units totalling 1,200 tons per day for crude palm oil and a 400-ton-per-day chemical refining unit for soft oils, particularly soybean and canola oil, on Alfa Laval technology, with about 53,000 tons of tank storage. Its Desmet solvent extraction plant processes canola, soybean and sunflower seed, with total crushing capacity of about 900 tons per day. The company states that it supplies freshly refined oils, particularly RBD palm oil, to Pakistan's vanaspati and cooking oil industry, and sells the by-product PFAD to soap makers. It lists HACCP, SEDEX, FSSC 22000 and RSPO systems.
