Orient Gate
Manufacturer• Syria
Orient Gate is a Syrian company located in southern Tartous, seven kilometres from the city centre, a city it describes as one of Syria's most important strategic ports on the eastern Mediterranean coast. The company says it specialises in the filtration and packaging of olive oil in line with the standards set by the International Olive Council, and its logo reads 'For Producing & Packing Olive Oil'. It offers two grades: extra virgin olive oil from cold-pressed olives with acidity of no more than 0.8% and peroxide below 20 mg oxygen/kg, and virgin olive oil with acidity of no more than 2%, both free of any refined oil. The oil is filled into Marasca glass bottles of 250, 500, 750 and 1000 ml, gallon-style glass bottles from 250 ml to 2880 ml, round plastic bottles from 500 ml to 5 L, square plastic containers of 5 and 8 L, and 10 L and 16 kg tins. The company says it selects oil from Syria's best-known olive farms, where production goes back more than two hundred years, tests it in its own laboratory for conformity with international standards, and fills it on a fully automated, high-capacity Italian line that seals containers with plastic or aluminium caps without manual handling, monitoring every stage of production. According to its website it holds ISO 22000 (food safety management) and ISO 9001 (quality management) certifications.
